-Aluminum Coil for Roofing-

In the North American construction market, metal roofing systems hold a significant share of both commercial and residential projects. The quality of the aluminum coils used directly determines the roof's wind uplift resistance, corrosion resistance, and overall service life. Compared to traditional steel roofing panels, aluminum roofing is approximately two-thirds lighter, naturally rust-proof, and maintenance-free. It demonstrates superior stability in challenging environments—such as coastal areas with high humidity, regions using de-icing salts in winter, and areas prone to industrial acid rain. As a specialized aluminum coils manufacturer, BCM Aluminum has developed aluminum roofing coil product —ranging from base alloys to coating systems—specifically designed for roofing applications, and has consistently supplied numerous roofing projects across North America.

I. Alloys of Roofing Aluminum Coils

Roofing systems are subjected to long-term wind pressure, snow loads, thermal expansion and contraction, and rainwater exposure; therefore, the choice of alloy and temper must balance structural strength with formability. BCM's roofing aluminum coils cover three mainstream alloy grades:

3003-H14 is the general-purpose option, featuring a tensile strength of 145–195 MPa and a yield strength of ≥120 MPa. It offers excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance (withstanding ≥500 hours in neutral salt spray tests) and is suitable for the vast majority of inland commercial and residential roofing projects.

3105-H14/H24 is an upgraded, medium-to-high-strength option with a tensile strength of 150–190 MPa and a yield strength of ≥125 MPa; it offers approximately 10% higher strength than the 3003 alloy, providing superior wind uplift resistance for long-span roofing panels.

5052-H34 is designed specifically for coastal and industrial corrosive environments; its magnesium alloying creates a denser passivation film, enabling it to withstand over 1,000 hours in neutral salt spray tests, making it ideal for projects in coastal chemical industrial zones.

Regarding temper, the H24 low-stress temper is widely used in standing-seam roofing systems due to its minimal spring-back and high forming precision.

II. Roofing Coating Systems and Weathering Durability

BCM roofing aluminum coils typically utilize a pre-painted (coil-coated) process, with coating specifications tailored to North American climatic conditions.

Polyester (PE) coatings feature a dry film thickness (DFT) of ≥16 μm, Grade 0 adhesion, and a T-bend rating of ≤2T, making them suitable for lightweight residential roofing and semi-open structures.

High-Durability Polyester (HDP) coatings offer a DFT of 20–25 μm and significantly enhanced UV resistance, maintaining color stability outdoors for 10–15 years; they are the mainstream choice for standard commercial roofing in the US Midwest and Southeast.

Fluorocarbon (PVDF) coatings contain over 70% fluorocarbon resin, with a DFT of ≥25 μm, pencil hardness of ≥2H, and neutral salt spray resistance exceeding 2,000 hours; offering an outdoor service life of 25–30 years and meeting AAMA 2605 standards, they are ideal for projects in coastal Florida, Great Lakes regions (exposed to de-icing salts), and areas with high UV exposure.

A standard epoxy backer coating (≥8 μm) inhibits corrosion caused by condensation on the underside of the roof, thereby extending the system's lifespan.

III. Specifications of Roofing Aluminum Coils

BCM roofing aluminum coils are available in standard thicknesses ranging from 0.4 mm to 1.5 mm, with 0.9 mm and 1.0 mm being the most common specifications for standing-seam roofing systems. Widths can be custom-slit between 50 mm and 1,600 mm with a precision of ±0.5 mm, allowing for direct compatibility with roofing roll-forming line feed widths and minimizing on-site cutting waste. Thickness tolerance is consistently maintained at ±0.02 mm, and surface flatness is ≤2 mm/m; the material ensures a uniform profile and tight seam connections after continuous roll forming. Color consistency within the same batch is maintained at ΔE ≤1.0, and standard color codes based on Kynar 500/Hylar 5000 systems are available, covering popular roofing colors such as matte gray, cloud white, and metallic silver.

IV. Project Cases and Selection Recommendations

Based on practical application experience, BCM has supplied multiple batches of 3003-H14 and 3105-H24 color-coated aluminum coils for roofing contractors in North America. A logistics warehouse project in Texas utilized 0.9mm 3105-H24 aluminum with an HDP coating for a standing-seam roof; despite local summer temperatures frequently exceeding 40°C, the coating’s solar reflectance of ≥80% resulted in indoor temperatures 4–6°C lower than those under traditional steel roofing, with no significant color variation or deformation observed after two years of operation. For a commercial center renovation project in Ontario, Canada, 5052-H34 aluminum coils with PVDF coating were selected to withstand winter de-icing salts and diurnal temperature fluctuations; comprehensive ASTM B209 and AAMA 2605 test reports were provided upon delivery, ensuring immediate acceptance by the architect and project owner.

Recommendations regarding material selection: For standard commercial roofing in inland areas, 3003-H14 alloy with HDP coating offers an optimal balance between cost and service life; 3105-H24 is preferred for roofs subject to high wind loads or requiring long spans; and for coastal or heavy industrial environments, upgrading to 5052 alloy with PVDF coating is recommended.

V. BCM Manufacturing and Delivery Advantages

BCM maintains a standing inventory of over 2,000 tons of finished products, enabling shipment of standard roofing specifications within 7–15 days. Each batch is accompanied by test reports covering mechanical properties, coating thickness, color consistency, and salt spray resistance, with full traceability of furnace numbers. As an aluminum coil manufacturer, BCM supports comprehensive customization of alloy grades, tempers, coatings, and widths, alongside value-added services such as precision slitting, cut-to-length processing, and protective film application, allowing customers to feed materials directly into roll-forming lines upon receipt. For inquiries or sample requests regarding North American roofing projects, clients may provide local climatic conditions and profile specifications, and BCM's technical team will recommend the optimal alloy and coating solution.

The core value of aluminum coils for roofing lies in reducing the total lifecycle cost of the roof through the use of lightweight, highly weather-resistant materials. Leveraging stable manufacturing processes and extensive project experience in North America, BCM provides reliable aluminum roofing material solutions to roofing contractors and building owners worldwide.
