Construction grade aluminum coils are used for exterior wall cladding, roofing systems, soffit/fascia trim, rainwater systems, interior ceilings, and insulation jacketing. Key requirements include weather resistance, dimensional stability, coating durability, and suitability for mass forming. BCM Aluminum supplies aluminum coil products meeting North American building codes, covering four major alloys—1060, 3003, 3105, and 5052—primarily in O, H14, and H24 tempers, with a choice of PE, HDP, or PVDF coating systems.

1060 is a 1000-series commercially pure aluminum with an aluminum content of ≥99.60%, serving as a standard choice for interior applications and insulation jacketing. The O-temper variant offers an elongation of ≥30% and a soft texture, making it ideal for manual bending of curves, column wrapping, and complex trim shapes. The H14 temper features a tensile strength of 110–145 MPa and a yield strength of ≥90 MPa, balancing rigidity with formability; it is used for interior ceilings, duct wrapping, and roofing underlayment.
3003-H14 is the most widely used general-purpose alloy for North American construction projects. Alloyed with manganese for corrosion resistance, it offers a tensile strength of 145–195 MPa, a yield strength of ≥120 MPa, and neutral salt spray resistance of ≥500 hours, making it suitable for exterior wall panels, soffits/fascia, and column wrapping.
3105-H24 is used for gutters and drainage channels; alloyed with magnesium, it provides a tensile strength of 150–190 MPa and elongation of ≥10%. It exhibits approximately 20% less springback than the H14 temper, ensuring tight seams after roll forming.
5052-H34 is suitable for coastal areas exposed to salt spray and for industrial facilities; it features a magnesium content of 2.2%–2.8%, neutral salt spray resistance exceeding 1,000 hours, and a yield strength of ≥193 MPa, offering superior stability against wind uplift and snow loads.
Based on project experience, 1060-H14 aluminum coil offers the best cost-performance ratio for interior ceilings, thermal insulation jacketing, and air duct wrapping; 3003-H14 aluminum coil is selected for the exterior walls of standard commercial buildings in inland areas; 3105-H24 aluminum coil is the preferred choice for roofing and gutter systems; and 5052-H34 aluminum coil with a PVDF coating is recommended for coastal regions (such as Florida and California) and the "de-icing belt" of the Great Lakes.
BCM utilizes a continuous coil coating process involving two coats and two bakes, with a chromate pretreatment. 1060 alloy is primarily available in mill finish or with an interior PE coating, whereas 3003, 3105, and 5052 alloys are compatible with the full range of coating options.
- Polyester (PE): Dry film thickness ≥16 μm, adhesion rating of 0, T-bend ≤2T, and indoor color retention of 5–8 years;
- High Durability Polyester (HDP): Dry film thickness of 20–25 μm, outdoor color retention of 10–15 years, and a mainstream choice for standard commercial roofing in the Midwestern and Southeastern United States;
- Fluorocarbon (PVDF): Resin content ≥70%, dry film thickness ≥25 μm, pencil hardness ≥2H, neutral salt spray resistance >2,000 hours, compliant with AAMA 2605 standards, and outdoor color retention of 25–30 years.
Standard thicknesses for construction aluminum coils range from 0.2 mm to 2.0 mm: 1060 alloy is commonly used for insulation jacketing (0.3 mm, 0.5 mm); wall cladding and roofing panels typically use 0.7 mm, 0.9 mm, or 1.0 mm; gutters typically use 0.5 mm or 0.6 mm. Slitting widths range from 100 mm to 1600 mm with a tolerance of ±0.5 mm, compatible with standard North American roll-forming line feed widths. Thickness tolerance is ±0.02 mm; flatness is ≤2 mm/m; coil inner diameters are 508 mm or 610 mm.
1060-H14 aluminum coil: Interior ceilings, HVAC duct wrapping, roofing underlayment, lightweight decorative panels. 3003-H14 aluminum coil: Exterior wall cladding, soffits/fascia, trim bands, column covers.
3105-H24 aluminum coil: Gutters, downspouts, drainage channels.
5052-H34 aluminum coil: Coastal sun louvers, window surrounds, industrial wall panels.
