-What Are Aluminium Alloy Coils?-

Aluminum alloy coil is an aluminum alloy material made of pure aluminum by adding one or more alloying elements (such as copper, magnesium, manganese, silicon, zinc, etc.), and processed into a coiled product through melting, casting, rolling and other processes. Compared with pure aluminum coil, alloy aluminum coil has significantly improved its strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, weldability and other properties through alloying treatment, while maintaining the advantages of aluminum material such as light weight, good thermal conductivity and easy processing. It is widely used in industry, construction, transportation, packaging and other fields.

According to the alloy composition and use, alloy aluminium coils can be divided into multiple series. The common grades and characteristics are as follows:

1. 1000 Series Aluminum Coil (pure aluminum series)

- Representative grades: 1050, 1060, 1100

- Characteristics: aluminum content ≥99%, good ductility, strong corrosion resistance, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, but low strength.

- Application: chemical equipment, building decoration, electronic heat sink, packaging materials, etc.

2. 3000 Series Aluminum Coil (Aluminum-Manganese Alloy Series)

- Representative grades: 3003, 3004, 3105

- Characteristics: With manganese as the main alloying element, the strength is higher than pure aluminum, the corrosion resistance is good, and it is easy to process and shape.

- Application: air conditioner shell, refrigerator liner, building curtain wall, roofing material, can body, etc.

3. 5000 Series Aluminum Coil (Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy Series)

- Representative grades: 5052, 5083, 5754

- Characteristics: With magnesium as the main alloying element, it has low density, high strength, good corrosion resistance, and excellent welding performance.

- Application: shipbuilding, lightweight automotive parts, pressure vessels, architectural decoration, bridge structure, etc.

4. 6000 Series Aluminum Coil (Aluminum-Magnesium-Silicon Alloy Series)

- Representative grades: 6061, 6063, 6082

- Characteristics: With magnesium and silicon as the main alloying elements, it can be strengthened by heat treatment, with high strength, good corrosion resistance, and easy processing.

- Application: building doors and windows, curtain wall frames, transportation vehicles (such as high-speed rail carriages), electronic product shells, etc.

5. 8000 series aluminum coil (other alloy series)

- Representative brand: 8011

- Features: Usually a special alloy for aluminum foil, with good formability and corrosion resistance.

- Application: food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, capacitor foil, etc.

Application fields of alloy aluminum coil:

- Architectural field: curtain walls, roofs, doors and windows, etc., taking advantage of their light weight, corrosion resistance, and easy processing characteristics.

- Transportation: lightweight components such as automobiles, ships, and high-speed railways to improve energy efficiency.

- Packaging industry: aluminum foil for food and pharmaceutical packaging to ensure product safety.

- Electronic appliances: heat sinks, shells, etc., taking advantage of their thermal conductivity and processing properties.

- Industrial manufacturing: pressure vessels, chemical equipment, etc., taking advantage of their high strength and corrosion resistance.

The processing of aluminium alloy coil usually includes the following steps:

- Melting: smelting pure aluminum and alloy elements into ingots.

- Hot rolling: The ingot is heated and rolled into thick plates.

- Cold rolling: Further rolled into thin plates or aluminum coils.

- Heat treatment: Some grades (such as 6 series) are subjected to solution treatment and aging strengthening to improve performance.

- Surface treatment: Such as anodizing, coating, etc., to enhance corrosion resistance and decorative properties.
